Explaining the video log handouts…

The video log handout is for students to track which books they have read.  The 3 columns represent:
1) listen to the video book (on a device)
2) read the book by myself (students could either read a physical copy of the book, or mute their device and read from the video)
3) read the book to the teacher/a peer.
The handouts present the videos in the same order that they are displayed on the screen, helping students to work their way through reading all the books of a particular level. When new books are added to a reading level, a new version of the last handout page will be uploaded.

Do you have handouts to accompany the books?

Many of our books come with a handout. You can see if a certain book has a handout by selecting a book and reading the description. You can also do a search, such as “canard handout” to see all the books in that level that come with handouts.

Do you have running records?

Yes! There are running records available for each of the 18 levels.  To find them, simply type “running record” or “evaluation de lecture” into the search box. To find running records for a specific level, type the level name as well into the search box. For example, ananas running record will bring up the running records for level Ananas.

Describe the books, levels and series

There are 18 levels of books, starting with level ANANAS and ending with level ROSE DES VENTS. Each level is in alphabetical order (Ananas, Bateau, Canard, etc…)

There is also a series of math books, a Livres à Compléter series of books for the youngest learners as well as a vocabulary series.

All of the books in the 18 levels are available to the teacher in PDF format as well as video format. With a license, a teacher’s students can access the books in video format from both school and home. As they stream the video books, students can listen to the book being read and follow a visual cue on the screen to match what they hear with the text on the screen.

Many of the books in the 18 levels include a handout as well. When you preview a book that has a handout, you will see in the book description that a handouts available.

What if the videos don’t work?

Our videos are hosted by Vimeo. Over the last several years they have never failed us!  However, of course it is possible that an issue arises. The Internet is full of surprises! If videos are not streaming, rest assured we will do everything we can to get things back up and running as quickly as possible. We cannot guarantee that our videos will always work and that there will never be any unexpected downtime, however so far we haven’t had any issues.

One exception we know of is CHINA.  Due to the Chinese government’s internet censorship policy, our video books cannot be streamed in China! This is very disappointing for Chinese customers who contact us wishing to use our resources to learn French 🙁

Can I share the resources with others?

Each teacher using Lecture Enfant resources is required to have her/his own classroom license. Your license is for you to use with your class and cannot be shared outside of your classroom community.

Your students may access the videos from both school and home. Your classroom video account is only for the students of your class. You may not share your teacher account details with others who do not have a valid Lecture Enfant license.

Please see our terms and conditions for further details.

I’m a teacher. What do I get with my license?

As a teacher with a Lecture Enfant license, you get the following:

  • 12 months of access and use of all resources for your classroom, including:
  • a teacher account to log in and download all books and handouts that Lecture Enfant offers                           (18 levels of books – many with book specific handouts, a math series, a vocabulary series, a Livres à Compléter series, all in PDF format)
  • a student video account (shared by all students in your class) for your students to log in from both school and home to access all levelled books in video format

What is a video book?

A video book is a version of our PDF books in video format. Students and teachers can watch the video of each levelled book by streaming it online. They can listen to the book being read aloud as the pages turn themselves, and follow a visual cue on the screen to match what they hear with the exact text on the screen. Teachers can also print all the books to make a classroom library.

If a student forgets to bring a book home, they can still login to the classroom account and read/listen to the same book online in video format.

If a student (or the parent!) isn’t sure how to pronounce a certain word, they can stream the video book to hear it being read aloud in French. A visual cue on the screen will help them know exactly what words they are hearing.

All levelled books come in PDF (for teachers to print) as well as video format and students can log in from both school and home to read in French anytime.

Can I watch videos offline?

No, the videos are all streamed online and so an Internet connection is required. They cannot be downloaded.

Can I purchase individual products?

No, sorry.  To access and use any of our resources you must purchase a Lecture Enfant 12 month license. With the purchase of a license, the teacher may access and use any of the PDF and video resources with their class for 12 months. Please note our resources are copyright protected and licensed for use.

Do you have sample videos?

Yes! Visit our samples page and you can view a video book for each level/sample.

Screen shots from level ANANAS:

Once logged in, students select a reading level or series.

Each level opens in a new page, displaying the video thumbnails.

Students select a video and it opens in a large frame.

Do you have samples?

Yes! We have a number of full book PDF and video samples so that you can sample each level and series.  With the samples and the ability to preview the first 3 pages of every book you should get a good sense of what we have to offer.

Here are the complete book samples in both PDF and VIDEO format.

Why is the price $0.00 for every product?

This is more a function of our E-commerce website, where each book is a product available for download. Once you have purchased a license, all products are available for download at no extra cost. Individual books are not available for purchase.

I am a parent/tutor. Can I purchase a license?

Yes!

Tutors may purchase a 1 classroom license for tutoring purposes.  Tutors can register using the main registration form (same as for teachers).

Parents wishing to help their child/children have 2 options. 1) Purchase a private video license, which provides access to all videos (no PDF resources)  or  2) Purchase a private full license for access to both video and PDF resources for their household.  To purchase either type of private 1 household license please use this  private license registration form.

Which browser should I use?

We have found that Google Chrome and Safari work well for logging in.  A few years ago we had some issues when using Internet Explorer so we recommend not using Internet Explorer to log in.
